Bebras Computing Challenge Results 2026

🌟 Celebrating Our Students’ Success at the Bebras® Computing Challenge 2026

We are incredibly proud to share that 29 of our students participated in the Bebras® Computing Challenge 2026, and 11 students achieved awards and honorary mentions 🎉

That’s close to 40% of our participants being recognised — a fantastic result, especially considering this was our very first year taking part in the competition!

🧠 What is the Bebras® Computing Challenge?

The Bebras® Computing Challenge is an international computational thinking challenge designed to introduce students to key concepts in computer science through fun, engaging problems.

In Singapore, the competition is organised by the Singapore International Mastery Contests Centre (SIMCC). You can find out more here:

Bebras Computing Challenge is a unique competition that focuses on:

  • Logical thinking
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Pattern recognition
  • Algorithmic reasoning

These are the exact foundational skills we emphasise at The Lab, making Bebras® a perfect platform for our students to apply what they’ve learned in a meaningful way.

🚀 Our First Year: A Strong Start

As 2026 was our pilot year, we intentionally started with a smaller, focused group of students aged 8 to 10 years old.

Our goals were simple:

  • Introduce students to a global competition setting
  • Build confidence in tackling unfamiliar problems
  • Understand how our curriculum translates into competition performance

The results exceeded our expectations. Not only did our students rise to the challenge, but many also achieved outstanding recognition — a testament to their hard work and growth.

💡 More Than Just Awards

While we are proud of the 11 students who received awards and honorary mentions, what matters most is the learning journey.

Every participant:

  • Stepped out of their comfort zone
  • Learned to think independently
  • Developed resilience when facing challenging questions

These are lifelong skills that go far beyond any single competition.

🔮 Looking Ahead: Expanding in 2027

With such encouraging results, we are excited to expand our participation in 2027.

Next year, we plan to:

  • Open participation to older students aged 11 and 12
  • Provide more structured preparation sessions
  • Continue nurturing computational thinking across all levels

As 2026 was a test year for us, this expansion is a natural next step as we build confidence in guiding our students through international competitions.

Our vision is to progressively build a strong culture of academic competitions that support learning, growth, and confidence-building — not just winning.

💛 A Big Well Done to Our Students

To all 29 students who took part — we are incredibly proud of you.
To our award winners — congratulations on your well-deserved recognition!

And to all our parents, thank you for your continued trust and support.

We look forward to bringing even more opportunities like this to our students as they continue their journey in coding and beyond 🚀

❓ Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. How does the Bebras® Computing Challenge help with DSA portfolio building?

Participation in competitions like the Bebras® Computing Challenge strengthens a child’s Direct School Admission (DSA) portfolio, especially for STEM-related pathways.

It demonstrates:

  • Strong problem-solving and logical thinking skills
  • Willingness to take on academic challenges beyond school
  • Exposure to international-level competitions

These are qualities that many secondary schools look out for during DSA selection.

2. Do students need to win awards for it to count in their portfolio?

Not at all. While awards are a bonus, participation itself already adds value.

Schools recognise:

  • Effort and initiative
  • Consistency in learning
  • Exposure to structured competitions

Of course, achievements such as awards and honorary mentions further strengthen the portfolio.

3. At what age should my child start building a DSA portfolio?

It’s ideal to start early — typically from Primary 3 to Primary 5 — by exposing children to:

  • Coding projects
  • Competitions like Bebras®
  • Structured enrichment programmes

This allows time to build both skills and a strong track record.

4. How does The Lab support DSA preparation?

At The Lab, we focus on a well-rounded approach:

  • Curriculum-based skill development (coding, logic, problem-solving)
  • Competition exposure (like Bebras® and other recognised competitions)
  • Portfolio-building opportunities through projects and showcases

We guide students not just to learn, but to demonstrate their abilities meaningfully.

5. Will there be more competition opportunities in the future?

Yes! Following the success of our first year, we plan to:

  • Expand to older age groups (11–12 years old) in 2027
  • Introduce more national and international competitions
  • Provide structured training to better prepare students
