Course Details

Day 01

Introduction to 2D Sprite Animation

  • Overview of 2D animation principles
  • Introduction to the various animation types (Sprite sheets VS Skeletal animation)
  • Guided hands-on exercises in creating physical 2D Animations (Flipbook and Paper puppet)

Introduction to Digital Design tool

  • Introduction to Photopea.com and project setup
  • Introduction to interface and necessary tools/techniques
  • Techniques for organising layers and creating sprite sheets
  • Guided demonstration on drawing in Photopea
  • Overview of exporting and optimising animation assets

Day 02

Animation Processes

  • Project introduction and brief – Draw Mario and Goomba
  • Pre-animation planning and storyboarding
  • Designing and drawing on Photopea

Importing and Setting up Sprites in Unity

  • Introduction to Unity’s 2D workflow and importing art files and sprite sheets
  • Configuring sprite properties and slicing sprite sheets
  • Introduction to Unity’s animation system for 2D sprites

Day 03

Animating Sprites in Unity

  • Creating animation clips and setting keyframes
  • Exploring animation curves and interpolation for smooth motion/complex animations

Final Project and Wrap-Up

  • Completion and presentation of final animated project
  • Feedback and critique session
  • Recap of key learnings and resources for further exploration
