LEGO AI Builder Challenge 2.0 2026: Celebrating Young Innovators in LEGO, Robotics and AI
More than 100 young builders came together over three exciting days for the LEGO AI Builder Challenge 2.0 2026, organised by The Lab Singapore. Through hands-on LEGO building, participants explored creativity, engineering, robotics and problem-solving as they designed and constructed their own original creations.
Following the success of our inaugural LEGO AI Builder Challenge, the second edition brought together children aged 4 to 12 across three categories: Kinder, Junior and Coder.
As the first school in Singapore to introduce this LEGO Education Computer Science & AI Kit-based building competition, The Lab Singapore continues to create opportunities for children to explore technology through hands-on learning.
The results are in, and we are excited to announce the winners of LEGO AI Builder Challenge 2.0 2026!

We would also like to congratulate every child who participated in the LEGO AI Builder Challenge 2.0. With more than 100 young builders participating over three days, the competition showcased an exciting range of original ideas and creative LEGO constructions.
Every participant took on the challenge of designing, building and problem-solving independently, making this a meaningful learning experience beyond the competition itself.
What Is the LEGO AI Builder Challenge?
The LEGO AI Builder Challenge is a hands-on building competition that encourages children to explore creativity, engineering and technology using the LEGO Education Computer Science & AI Kit.
Unlike traditional LEGO activities that involve following step-by-step instructions, this LEGO robotics competition in Singapore challenges participants to design and build something original.
Each participant receives the official LEGO Education Computer Science & AI Kit and has just 45 minutes to complete a creation.
There are no pre-built models to rely on and no predetermined designs to copy. Children must decide what they want to create, select suitable components and work out how to bring their ideas to life.
This process encourages independent thinking, experimentation and practical problem-solving. When a design does not work as expected, participants must evaluate their choices, adapt their approach and find alternative solutions within the time available.
These experiences help children develop important skills that support their learning in robotics, coding, engineering and AI education.
Exploring LEGO Robotics and AI Through Hands-On Building
The LEGO Education Computer Science & AI Kit provides a practical way for children to explore how technology components can be used in creative designs.
The kit includes components such as motors, sensors, a controller and track. During the LEGO AI Builder Challenge, participants are encouraged to think about how these features can be used purposefully to enhance their creations, even without writing a single line of code.
Rather than focusing only on programming a robot, the competition introduces another important aspect of robotics education: understanding how components can be combined to achieve a purpose.
Children must consider how their structures connect, how to make their builds stable and how different components can contribute to their ideas.
This approach encourages children to see LEGO as more than a building toy. It becomes a tool for exploring engineering concepts, creative design and the practical applications of technology.
Although the competition introduces children to components associated with robotics and computer science, the emphasis is on original building, thoughtful design and problem-solving rather than developing a complete AI system.
Three LEGO Building and Robotics Categories for Children
The LEGO AI Builder Challenge 2.0 welcomes children aged 4 to 12, with separate categories designed for different age groups.
Kinder Category — Ages 4 to 6
Young children are encouraged to develop their imagination and confidence through hands-on LEGO building. By experimenting with different pieces and structures, they begin to explore spatial awareness, construction and creative thinking.
Junior Category — Ages 7 to 9
Junior participants are challenged to think more carefully about structural stability, building techniques and the purposeful use of LEGO components. They learn to turn an idea into a practical design while working within specific constraints.
Coder Category — Ages 10 to 12
Older participants have the opportunity to demonstrate more advanced construction techniques, engineering decisions and creative applications of the LEGO Education Computer Science & AI Kit.
Across all three categories, the goal is the same: to encourage children to think independently, experiment with possibilities and create something uniquely their own.
How Are LEGO AI Builder Challenge Entries Judged?
The competition evaluates each creation across four criteria, with a total of 40 points available.
1. Creativity and Originality — 10 Points
Judges look for original ideas that reflect the participant’s own imagination. The aim is to encourage children to develop their own concepts rather than reproduce familiar LEGO designs.
2. Building Technique — 10 Points
A strong creation requires more than an interesting idea. Judges consider the quality of the construction, the connections between components and the stability of the finished build.
3. Use of LEGO Education Computer Science & AI Kit Features — 10 Points
Participants are encouraged to make purposeful and creative use of the kit’s motors, sensors, controller and track. The focus is on how effectively these components contribute to the design.
4. Overall Wow Factor — 10 Points
An impressive creation captures attention through its distinctive concept, theme, name, story or creative features.
Together, these criteria reward originality, engineering thought and the ability to transform an idea into a completed creation.
Why LEGO Robotics Competitions Matter for Children’s Learning
A LEGO robotics competition offers children an opportunity to apply their creativity and problem-solving skills in a practical setting.
At The Lab Singapore, we believe that meaningful technology education involves more than following instructions or memorising coding commands. Children also need opportunities to explore, make decisions, test ideas and learn from mistakes.
The LEGO AI Builder Challenge encourages these habits through several important learning experiences.
Creative thinking: Children develop their own concepts and explore different ways to turn their ideas into physical creations.
Engineering and design: Participants learn to consider structural stability, component placement and how different parts fit together.
Problem-solving: With a limited amount of time, children must evaluate their designs, overcome unexpected challenges and adapt their approaches.
Communication skills: Presenting a creation to judges gives participants an opportunity to explain their ideas, describe their design choices and communicate their intended functionality.
These skills are valuable foundations for further learning in coding, robotics, engineering and artificial intelligence.
From LEGO Building to Coding, Robotics and AI Education
The LEGO AI Builder Challenge is part of The Lab Singapore’s broader commitment to helping children develop an interest in technology through hands-on learning.
Our programmes introduce children to coding, robotics and AI concepts through age-appropriate activities and practical projects. As children progress, they have opportunities to develop their logical thinking, computational thinking and problem-solving abilities.
We believe that AI education for kids should be introduced thoughtfully, with learning experiences that help children understand technology rather than simply use it.
Hands-on activities such as LEGO building can encourage curiosity and creative confidence, providing a starting point for exploring more advanced concepts in robotics, programming and AI.
By giving children opportunities to create rather than simply follow instructions, we hope to inspire them to become confident learners and thoughtful users of technology.
Celebrating More Than 100 Young LEGO Builders
The LEGO AI Builder Challenge 2.0 2026 has been an exciting celebration of creativity, engineering and innovation.
With more than 100 children participating over three days, the competition demonstrated how a shared set of LEGO components can inspire a wide range of original ideas.
Congratulations once again to our champions:
- Kinder: Tanvir Singh Wasan
- Junior: Emberlyn Chua Yu Eun
- Coder: Theodore Reyner Lo
We would also like to thank every participant for bringing their enthusiasm, imagination and determination to the challenge. Each creation represented a willingness to experiment, overcome challenges and bring a personal idea to life.
At The Lab Singapore, we look forward to continuing to inspire children to explore LEGO robotics, coding and AI through meaningful, hands-on learning experiences.
The next great innovation could begin with a single LEGO brick.
